Kathu
Katu is one of the most convenient areas for permanent residence in Phuket, located in the central part of the island. Due to its strategic location, the area provides quick access to both the west coast and Phuket Town, making it popular with locals, expats and those moving to the island to work or study.
The main feature of Katu is its central location. Patong can be reached in about 10-15 minutes, Phuket Town in 10 minutes, and Bang Tao and International Airport in about 25-35 minutes. This makes it easy to move around the island without having to live in bustling tourist areas.
Katu is considered one of the main residential areas of Phuket. It is home to a large number of Thai families, expats, entrepreneurs, employees of international companies and students. The district is characterized by a developed urban infrastructure and is focused on a comfortable everyday life, rather than a tourist holiday.
One of the most famous attractions of the area is Andamanda Phuket - the largest water park on the island with dozens of water rides, swimming pools, artificial wave and recreation areas for the whole family. This is one of the most popular places of entertainment in Phuket.
Katu is also widely known among golf lovers. There are two of the best golf clubs of the island - Red Mountain Golf Club and Loch Palm Golf Club, which are regularly ranked among the best courses in Thailand due to their complex terrain and picturesque views.
The area is home to major shopping malls and supermarkets including Lotus’s Kathu, Makro, Index Living Mall, and Central Phuket Floresta and Central Phuket Festival are just a short drive away. There are also international schools, medical centers, fitness clubs, cafes, restaurants and all the necessary services for a comfortable life.
An additional advantage of the district is its proximity to Prince of Songkla University (PSU), the largest university in southern Thailand. Thanks to the university and numerous company offices, Katu enjoys a stable demand for long-term rentals.
